Saving Gemini Chats

Overview

Google Gemini chats are deleted 3 months after their creation, however you do have the ability to save chats by following the directions below.

Saving an Individual Chat

If you want to save an individual chat:

1. Select the chat you would like to save and scroll down to the bottom of the conversation.

2. Click the Copy response button, navigate to the document you would like to save the chat to, and paste it. You can also choose the Export to Docs option from the three-dot menu to have it saved to a new Google Doc. The Google Doc will exist in your My Drive and share the same title as the chat. 

Bulk Gemini Chat Export (using Google Takeout)

If you want to download every chat you've ever had, this is the official way to do it:

1. Go to Google Takeout.

2. Click Deselect all (to avoid downloading your entire Google information).

3. Scroll down to My Activity and check the box.

4. Click the All activity data included button, then Deselect all, then click the Gemini Apps box and click OK.

5. Scroll to the bottom and click Next step.

6. Choose your delivery method (usually Send download link via email) and click Create export.

7. Wait: Google will bundle your chats into a .zip file. This can take anywhere from minutes to over a day

Note: Exporting Gemini chats via Google Takeout will not include any that were deleted. 

Bulk Gemini Gem Export (using Google Takeout)

1. Go to Google Takeout.

3. Scroll down to Gemini and check the box.

4. Scroll to the bottom and click Next step.
